$60 Tempering Oven, in a thermos!????

I scrounged a toaster oven for my tempering oven. Granted, I'm a newbie, I'm only doing 1095 and it tops out at 450 or so (hasn't been accurately measured.) But I can temper blades up to about 10" OAL, which is fine for now.

Interesting idea. For tempering blades, a toaster oven would be easier, cheaper (on sale), and probably give you better temperature control. Most likely more safe too.
 
It was someone else's idea.

Best part is that it is portable. I can run an extension cord out into the porch, so the smoke from the oil (I quench in corn oil for now) isn't a problem. Inside the house, it can be.

you bet it works great..thats all i use except i insulate around the out side and put a temp gauge in it so i can make sure it`s at the temp i want..and from what the gauge reads the temp only varies about +/- a degree or so...close enough for me
