Is anyone else still waiting on one of these?
Or first I guess I should say that my problem is not with Darrel Ralph, he just designed the kit, although I'm wondering if he didn't end up hand filing each one out himself.
The date on my order is 5-30-2000, thats right 3 months ago today and I still haven't received all of my order. In the middle of june, 2 weeks after receiving half the order and finding out that the other half was on back order, I emailed the folks at Koval knives and asked if they knew when I would get the rest. They said they weren't sure, but thought mid to late july. Then when the end of july came they called and told my mom ( I wasn't home at the time) that they had part of the order but not all of it. I was also waiting on a thumbstud( she didn't know which part they didn't have yet). But that it would be here sometime in August. Well, tommorrow is the last day of august, the UPS truck has already passed the house today, and I still haven't received any of my stuff.
This is my 3rd order to Koval, the third time I've had most of my order be put on back order, and the first 2 times I had to change the order because they decided not to carry the things I had ordered anymore, even though it was still listed in the catalog.
I hate to find a new supplier, because they have such a nice selection, and the people there seem like their trying to be helpful. But I'm getting tired of hearing about how the problem is with their supplier. Guess what I have a problem with my supplier, and thats koval knives. So do I just have incredilbly bad luck and my order is the one order they have trouble with out of every hundred? Or am I getting screwed?
What makes it even worse is the knife was supposed to be for my brothers graduation present. I don't plan on making kits any more, but ordered that one because it looked a lot nicer than most kits, and there was no chance of me finishing one of the folders I'm working on right now in time. Only now it looks like I could have just saved myself the trouble and made my own.

Hey Matt, sorry to hear about your experiences with Koval. It's a good thing you posted this message as I was going to order a couple of kits in the next week or so. If you would, could you keep us(me) posted on when/if you get them?

Regards,

Hugh

Matt,
The designer has an email address published here on bladeforums. He might have some insight for you. I share most of your dismay with Koval about a lot of things, but I have mellowed somewhat. The do okay most of the time. But, customer service is definitely not their forte!

People here seem to love Sheffield Knifemaker's Supply, and I have heard them comment on their service as being especially good.

I have had no problems with Koval so far. I really dont have a favorite place to buy supplies from. I like Texas Knifemaker's supply, as well as Sheffield and Masecraft. I really havent been burned by any of them.

I ordered mine in April a long with some belts and a few other things. Well I called them June and asked about the stuff. They saud the 605 was backordered and it will be at least intill september, well I said Hey how about the other stuff I ordered they said it will be shipped out soon. Well it is the first of september and I don't have the knife kit OR the other stuff yet!

Hah, I didn't even get a catalog until the middle of may. I thought I was getting mine ordered early before they sold out ( which seems to be a common occurence judging by all the other things I've ordered that they were out of) so this time they hadn't even gotten any yet.
When I called in June they said July, then in July they called and said August. Now its september and I think I'll be sending them another email.
And I guess I'll be checking out Texas knifemakers supply and the other guys. I need to check out their catalogs. Koval has a lot of stuff in their catalog, not necessarily in the store

And thats why I didn't switch sooner. But this has gone beyond ridiculous. This time they'll probably tell me that it was really supposed to go in the 2001 catalog.

Thanks I'll have to do that.

Hi Matt

First of all I just designed the kit for the 605. So lets get that straight ok.
Koval will get the kits as soon as there ready from there supplier. This is something I cant do anything about. So please take the problem up with them.

If you have a problem with Koval why dont you call Judy Koval and speak to her directly. That might solve your problem.

Darrel
I wasn't blaming you for the problems in getting the kit. That was the first thing I said in my post that started this topic. I know theres nothing you can do about it.I was just saying it probably would have been faster if you had been the one making the kits, just joking around. I guess the real reason I brought your name up was to give you credit for designing the kit.You did a nice job.
I have exchanged emails with koval about it. They blame their supplier and keep saying "just a little longer". I still haven't gotten my stuff. So as soon as this gets straightened out, I'll be done doing bussiness with koval knives.I realize that things don't always turn out as planned. But after making 3 orders with them, and having to change EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM from what I had originally ordered to things that were similar or even completely different, I'm tired of it. I'll give my bussiness to someone who has what they advertise and can get it to me in less than 6 months.
