Thanks Bert for your info I believe it to be Micarta after checking out your link. Here is a link to an earlier thread that has close ups of leather, fiber and micarta spacers.

Sassafrass... the spacers of your knife are clearly FIBER and Herbert oopsied in his picture label, the two left knives are both FIBER. MICARTA does not come along until 1969, during the 2-line period. /Roger
Thanks Guy's!!! You sure get an education hanging around in here, it's Great!!!Oops -
Ok, Roger, I'm sorry if I am wrong. I was sure the left knife has micarta spacers. I'll dig it out tomorrow and have a look. But the question of the TO is correctly answered. His knife has fiber spacers.

Thanks to you also gedlicks!! I alway's appreciate all of you for your information, there is a wealth of knowledge here on the Buck forum!!That looks like fiber (corrected by Haebbie). The leather ones usually swell a bit around the edges and look a bit rougher and thicker as a general rule. Especially in the area at the bottom of the guard where the spacer
transitions from the phenolic handle to the metal spacer.
