When I bought my 62 from tomars I also ordered the extra micarta handles for it that they sell. My question is has anyone dyed those micarta handles? I don't really like how lite colored they are. I have some black leather/fabric dye and was thinking about putting a coat on them. Is black too dark? Then I was thinking- would shadetree handles look good on it? Or are they too much? Thoughts? Opinions?

Dye works, lots of people have, myself included.

But....What I like, and it sounds weird is.... I like oiling the micarta with watco danish oil finish.... It has a variety of color tints available. It penetrates into the pores a bit. In wood, it slightly hardens. Buffs nicely. Looks and feels warm like wood.

I like the feel afterwards, and I probably like the smell too?
Comforting childhood memories.....

I have dyed two pairs with Fiebings leather dye. After they dried, the color rubbed off for awhile, then settled down. Mahogany was gorgeous. The oil dyes might be more predictable. Not sure I'd do boiled dye as you might warp them, especially since the underside is smooth and won't absorb moisture as fast as the contoured surfaces.

But I do like those scales a lot, and have purchased about a dozen sets for various projects.
