635 vs Retribution 2

I'm hoping to get a knife for Christmas and I'm torn between the Ontario Retribution 2 or a benchmade 635. I understand that the Hossom is a linerlock but that the liner is as thick as a lot of framelocks so strength of the lock should be a non issue. Anyone have a preference? Why that particular knife?

Forgot to add that It will be used as an additional EDC to replace a SAK one hander so bulk shouldn't be too much of a problem. Any ideas?

Well, I like the Hossom alot, and it IS a big beast of a folder. And I think it is an AWEOSME folder!! But, I LOVE titanium, pocket clips, S30V, and framelocks; so I would choose the 635. Whichever you choose, you are getting a fantastic knife either way!!

I don't know why but I never use the clip unless I carry IWB for self defense purposes. Thank God I haven't has to do that for a number of years.

I don't have a 635 yet, but from the looks it and the Retribution are two different animals. The Hossom comes with a sheath, I couldn't see carrying it in my pocket. It's at least an inch wide at the middle of the handle. I love my Retribution but for EDC carry I would go with the 635. I'd save the Retribution for going camping or Hiking and the like. It's the most solid feeling folder that I own, it makes my Manix or Rukus feel small.

Jim, is the retribution 2 is an inch wide or an inch thick at the handle? An inch wide I wouldn't mind too muchb but an inch thick:eek:

Both of the Retributions are big beasts of knives!!!! They are great!! But they fill the hand!!

Just eyeballing it with a ruler, I would say

Retribution 2... 15/16" thick (side to side), 1.5" wide (top to bottom)

Retribution 1... 1" - 1 & 1/16" thick, 1.75" wide

Hope this helps!

Having EDC-ed both...I'd go with the 635. It's got a better blade-to-handle ratio and lies flat in the pocket.

If I get a Retr. (and it is indeed tempting!) I'll take the handles off and put on thinner ones.

That is a huge knife. I was leaning toward the Hossom but it looks that I have to head to a B&M store and try to handle it. If I am unable to do that the 635 it will be....Now all I have to do is convince my wife:rolleyes: :D

Dan, If I just can't resist the Hossom how about rehandling it for me?

I'd go with the 630 instead of the 635.635 handle seemed to taper off to quick for me.I sold my 635 and replaced it with the 630,which fills up my hand and then some.

Thanks for the info but my hands are medium/small and a 4.3 inch blade is a little bit too big for me to feel comfortable about EDCing

Forgot I posted these in another thread. Here's some pic's of a Retribution 2 next to a Manix and a BM 710. Gives you an idea how beefy it is. :)

Man, you could get rid of the scales completely and still have a heck of a knife. Jim70 Thanks a whole bunch, virtual greenies sent.
