neat knife, but the sawback doesnt do much for me. the blade shape though I do really like. like to see a reissue of this blade shape but without the saw back. or with it......beggars cant be choosers.

the versions I've seen here in the sps and other threads without the saw on the back spine sure look good. not sure who owns those but i know some of y'all have them. anyways here mine.......

here who likes these knives and who doesnt?

Those must have been made during the Rambo craze. His knife was very large. Still, a 639 is interesting. DM

I like the saw back(most people try sawing with it, it is intended for notching. Carry a small saw for sawing). I have one with and without. Can't stand the handle. I'm lucky enough to have a phenolic handled one (300 or so made). My non saw back is out being re-handled with some nice wood.

nice one. like that version better than the kraton handle version

I like the design, especially the phenolic handled one. There was a kraton handled one on the local CL that I was eyeing, but, at a Benjamin, and nothing, else I reluctantly passed. Preston

Are the just a 119 with some work on the spine and clip point?

yes Sir. think the one i got is 1986 maybe? that or pretty close to that period. not sure when these started being made or stopped? I'd guess you are absolutely right.

^ thank you Sir, for the date ranges. wonder what factory edge buck put on it. I expect pre-2000? guess they would being older.

The kraton handled models first appeared in Buck's 1987 catalog, as " now 5 fixed blade models are available with kraton handles". So, the knife gsea posted in the
photo is likely from 1986. That's when I think the model came out. DM
