Any one know the metal makeup of those little 64" metal cutting band-saw blades?
I had an old one that I wanted to weld up for a couple of folder blades. It welded together really well, and I came out with about an 8"x3/4"x1/8" billet.
I'm new to making damascus and I didn't know how well it would come out, so I only made one weld of 12 layers. After I finished, I ground one end and etched it.
Both the layers and the welds came out nice and bright. I tested the hardness of the billet by doing a spark test which created bright white complex sparks, and a file would not stick to billet at all.
Any information on the metal makeup of the blades would be great.
Thanks -chris
