.

Oh man there are a ton of choices out there, what's you price range?

I've made a home in my front pocket for an Izula for a couple months now.
Have you looked at them?

I don't have the Benchmades you mention, but I've been happy EDCing a RAT RC-3 lately.

There would be a number of ways to carry the RC-3 horizontal: the paracord and paracord lock supplied with the stock kydex sheath (run it through the holes), Tek-Lok, and I think also Molle locks.

I use paracord for vertical carry on a belt -- it seems like the least bulky option. It would work equally well for horizontal carry.

Go to the RAT subforum for more information.

Skelly Warden might be another approach, if you're into something slightly more off the beaten path.

In that price range (Not a lot of room), well the ones you like already, look at ZT and try some customs.

Also CS PENDLETON HUNTER would be an excellent EDC and under $100 for a strong blade.

You can have a sheath made for any knife.

Right now I'm looking at the BM Nimravus Cubs and the BM Instigator (which I'll probably grab anyway since it seems like such a good deal).
Fair warning about the Instigator -- the blade is chisel-ground.

With regards to blade length, 4" is the max... but do you have a minimum as well?

Also, what carry options are you open to? e.g. belt (horizontal), pocket, neck, boot, etc...

I have looked at the Izula but its a little small on blade length for what I'd like in an EDC (around 3.5in).

True but it is nice to have something ready out of box. The nim cub i sheath looks fine but that the one on the ii looks pretty bulky for horizontal belt wear. Anyone have any experience with the nim cub ii? (regarding the sheath and general comparison to nim cub i).

Thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming. Looking at all the stuff mentioned.

That's why you have one made for that kind of carry, most sheaths that come with those knives aren't going to be that good. The knives will be great, but not the sheath.

Buy the blade you want, the best one that you can and worry about the sheath after.

Something that needs to be mentioned, and often overlooked, is you should actually handle, if you can, the knives you're interested in. I've learned my lesson about buying knives that I thought would fit my hand(s) or be comfortable to hold. Just because a lot of guys like a particular knife doesn't mean it'll be right for you. I swore I've never buy another knife without handling it first but I broke my own rule and bought a RAT Izula two weeks ago. At first I liked it but after light use I now find the handle's too short for me. If it was about 0.5" longer it'd be great. I'll pro'lly wind up selling it. Anyway, point is try before you buy.

Hey, saw this thread, long time lurker, first time post. Had to throw my two cents in, because I bought this blade a month ago.

The nim cub II is a GREAT blade, lighter than most of my EDC blades, has great jimping, great steel (not S30V though), and for EDC purposes, Id recommend it. The sheath is near perfect, the attachment is great. You could easily carry this knife at your side and not have it noticed until you whip it out. (If I didn’t live in California, Id carry this as my edc) I’ve used this knife to split many pieces of wood, and it’s held up perfectly.

I didn’t really like the black coating on the blade so I sanded it off, and the handle is a bit small, but for my hands, the end cradles perfectly into my palm. Also, when I received the knife the blade wasn’t razor sharp, but for 90 dollars new, I suggest you pick it up.
