6mm thick = how many inches?

Fallkniven A-1 is 6mm thick, and was wondering how many inches that is. Not a math expert here at all. Not even close...
 
I always think of millimeters in terms of calibers. A Winchester .243 slug is close to 6mm diameter (give or take less than a hundredth of an inch).

As long as we're all throwing in our metric-deprived American conversion methods, here's mine:

I also use a "caliber" system. 12.7mm=.50cal (e.g. Browning M1/M2) and .50 cal=.5" so 1"=25.4mm, or roughly 2.5cm. I see that this is slightly off from Tuff's calculation - probably the "nominal" and "actual" caliber differences are messing me up. Anyhow, if you call 1" 2.5cm you're close enough for non-technical stuff. The sad thing is I have to go through this process every time I want to convert cm/mm to inches...

Even the English don't use "English measure"... what the heck is wrong with us?

And the correct answer is:

1" is 24,500 millimeters

36" is 914,400 millimeters ( one yard??)

these numbers are from my ruler wich has a conversion table on the back, so the numbers must be quite accurate.

This is jut a cookdown of the posts above me, to make things easyer to understand.

The other way around, in Denmark we are just as confused about the inch?? system.

It's easy!! 24,500 millimeters = 1".

I'm sorry. I couldn't resist. Maybe we should devise our own Knifemakers Measuring system.

Anyone got any ideas?

In my old Brown and Sharpe tool book the exact conversion tables are...
inches to mm (ins.X 25.4) is exact.

From millimeters to inches
(mm X 0.0393701) is accurate to six signficiant figures for mm/in.

That is the formula I used in the tool room for accurate measurement conversion.
