As many may remember, every year the hosts of the Phatwater Challenge recruit me to make a Bowie Knife. The Challenge is a kayak race on the Mississippi River from Port Gibson to Natchez, MS. It's a little over forty miles and terminates at the infamous "Natchez Under the Hill." Paddlers from around the world attend.

Because of the venue, they always request a Bowie and this is the 6th that I've been honored to presented them with. Raffel tickets are sold to the tune of $5000 total, and the proceeds go to the local Natchez animal shelter. Unfortunately I was unable to have it sent off for photos. Fortunately however, Keith Benoist, one of the event's promoters is a skilled photographer and he produced these images. Not your average knife shots but pretty cool anyway.

If I recall, the blade is about 8" and I tried to do a riverine theme in damascus. The handle is Sambar stag. The sheath is in the Paul Long style with farm-raised Nile Crocodile (How's that for "riverine!"). On second thought, I probably should have used American Alligator, considering it's Mississippi 'n all.

Hope you enjoy them. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can contact kayakmississippi.com.

What a great concept! That Bowie will make a fine prize indeed - it's a beauty. Love the damascus pattern - very appropriate to the event itself.

Classic Vandeventer. Very nice Terry. Love the damascus. Another gorgeous bowie.

I had the chance for a short visit with Terry last week and saw this one nearly finished. It sure turned out great Terry!

Terry another great knife as we have come to expect from you. Being an animal lover myself I can certainly appreciate the cause. I guess I need to buy a few tickets. Who knows maybe I can win a knife. Really nicely done. It just seems to me that I like everything that comes out of your shop.

That is a cool project and an awesome looking knife and sheath Terry.

I like it VERY much. Great looking damascus and the piece of stag has a perfect curve for the shape of the knife.
