6Z v M2

I was tempted to trade (Thanks Tim!)into an M2. Comparing it against my 6Z, with the lower power head assembly in the M2, they have the same output. Run times seem comparable. The advantage to the M2, better ergonomics and more gee-whiz features. I like the lock-out tailcap, higher output head and removeable clip. I just wonder if it is worth 2x the price... let the buyer decide! I am happy with all my SureFire products! BTW, Tim Flanagan had the E1s in a neat silver color (gunmetal) and is a great guy to boot!

The SureFire LockOut TailCap is one of the most useful improvements over the SureFire Classic Series and other flashlight brands.

While the "Z41" LockOut TailCap can be added to the Classic Series, I find the two little markers very helpful indeed. The marker on the flashlight would not be on the Classic Series flashlight...

Whilst the 6Z is far cheaper, I'm expecting to see some great new flashlights for 2001. I can't wait until Mr Paul Kim updates his site with all the new designs when he gets back from the SHOT Show where he's got them on show....

I would still go for the M2 again for the increased toughness and LockOut TailCap alone.

An alternative view ... I believe that in most cases, the M2 is not worth the extra price over the 6Z. I do like it that the M-2 is more water resistant, has the lockout tailcap, and the high-powered lamp. But unless you know you'll be really wet, the 6Z's water resistance is fine. I've not had problems with the tailcap on the 6Z, and if you haven't either, that's another thing not to worry about. Lastly, I'm on-and-off about the P61 lamp. It cuts runtime by 2/3, and most people report their P61 doesn't make the bright spot any brighter, just bigger.

Although I have a 6Z, I also have an M-2, for no other reason than that I wanted the best 2-cell light. Just because. But bang-for-the-buck, the 6Z dominates, IMO.

I agree completely. The 6Z maybe all you require. It's not all I require, and the M2 fits my bill better. If only the pocketclip was mounted so you can carry it Bezel down...

The P61 has it's uses, but it's really only significantly brighter for about the first 5-10 minutes with fresh new batteries. This is why I usually carry an SC1 with the P60 so I can swap the Lamp Modules as required.

You get a bigger bang for your buck with a SureFire 6Z then you do with a TACMIII or Scorpion based on features...Especially if you want to use it with a handgun.

The CombatGrip on SureFire Flashlights is superb!

P.S.
Will your M2 will be the best 6V flashlight after the SHOT Show premieres the new products for 2001?... I can't wait to find out how the 'SureFire Revolution' continues!

Dunno, but the suspense is killing me, too! The only really interesting 6V light I've heard about is the E2. I think that's a killer light for utility use. I must have one. I'm guessing it will replace my E1 completely for a carry-around-everywhere light, but ya never know 'til you get one.
