Yeah, guys, sorry but I gave this one away...mailed it out. It was too nice to just sit in a safe forever, so gave it to a good BF friend who will actually carry it and use it to slice his sandwiches and veggies at work, and perhaps in his Italian kitchen at home.

I like to gift to LEO's and military, but this particular one had to go to someone who has "a real appreciation."
Spyderco C144GPGY Caly 3.5 Sprint in gray G-10 and wonderful Super Blue steel ...NIB.

Sometimes, these nice ones just have to be used...

That's a cool story. Your generosity is commendable. I don't think I've ever gotten anything for free for being military though I have gotten a 10% discount at some places. Oh wait, yeah I got some things for free.
I got called a "stinking infidel" one time, which I considered a compliment, so that doesn't count. [emoji3]

Got a beer bottle thrown at me and called a baby killer. That was on the highway in Portland, Oregon though so that doesn't count. [emoji3]

Anyway, I think you're doing a positive thing. Good for you.

Generous gesture, indeed, but self-promotion (LOOK AT WHAT I DID !) is unnecessary and uncomely.
Just my unsolicited opinion, so, please, don't be offended.

You state the OP is "uncomely" and then tell him not to be offended? What the hell is that? A generous gesture on his part does not deserve a belittlement from anyone. I personally wouldn't post a thread stating I gave something away either, but doing so does not make one a monster.

Forgive my rant, I do hope he enjoys his new knife!

I'm trying hard to not be offended... :) Am I patting myself on the back? Yes. Is there anything more to it than that? Gosh, I really hope so.

I hope to "inspire" other folks here to donate reliable folders to deployed military, "needy" (younger) law-enforcement officers, and first responders.
WHY?
Because these folks use these in their daily work, and they may someday save someone's life with one of these folders... Many of these younger people have families and very little money left for basic equipment in the early years of their career. I have seen this work...time and time again. I am also a confirmed patriot and love and respect all of the folks who put their lives on the line every day for us.

The other reason that I gift and post is simple...it makes ME feel good. And I would wish that same enjoyment for you...

I guess I won't apologize for this...

A note to deskil...
Yes, I like to help folks. I hope that some of my posts have been devoted along that line...

For further self-aggrandizing...and to add a bit of inspiration and humor...I thought I would include this pic of folders that I've been putting into a box now for a few months. Once I get the proper paperwork in order, I WILL be sending these to a particular Marine Reserve detachment, presently deployed in the Sand. Well, all except for that white special edition Endura in the middle...
That one is slated for a nice local lady Navy recruiter. I met her while doing some small amount of volunteer "guard duty" in front of our Navy/Marines recruiting station, just following the nasty attack in Chattanooga two months ago... (Yes, I'm old enough to be her great-grandfather.)

Sir, don't knock it if you ain't tried it...

You sir have no need to justify yourself to anyone, I find your method of support very generous, and thoughtful. Thank you, and everyone worthy of such a prized gift.

Self promotion is really what all forums are about in my view. Think about it, everyone shows what they got or what they do (self promoting). And in response, in posts, wouldn't you self promote as a way to identify with the OP, or to show solidarity/support or to disagree?

I don't have a problem with a "look at me" if the reason to look is a really great thing.

You keep on Rockin' Don!

That's an excellent gift Sonnydaze! I'm sure those militaries and pm2s will be well appreciated too. Thanks for helping out our protectors.

A note to Sonnydaze...

I was taught that giving should be, by definition, a sacred and selfless act; that it requires neither affirmation nor accolade.
(Granny told me not to break my arm, patting myself on the back.) And I took it to heart.

Your response, in which you give further examples of your beneficence, shows that you were taught differently and were actually offended. I respect that we have different ideas about the nature of the transfer of material goods, without the expectation of compensation. Insult was not my intention and I offer my apologies for any offense.

I think I read in his intention that he told his story so that the rest of us would likewise do something good for someone else. I have told similar stories to inspire people, not looking for a pat on the back. Thanks for the reminder that we should treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves and to love our neighbor.

Thank you, everyone, for your support and understanding.
I grew up in such a great family.
My brother and I did manual summer field work on loan to local farmers. We studied flash-cards of WWII German fighters and bombers in order that we could instantly recognize them flying over our mid-west home and send a telephoned report.
My Dad was a 50-yr small-town preacher with little monetary compensation, and many hours counseling folks in his congregation and visiting patients in local hospitals, running the RED CROSS in our county, and active in the Civilian Air Defense Command in our area...WWII. (Remember the war-days of school drills and atomic-bomb shelters? He worked himself into a frazzle, and occasionally would crash for a while, per doctor's orders.
My mother fed transient railroad bums milk and sandwiches on our front porch, ran our church's local Ladies Aid Society, and painted bomb sights at a converted GM factory with other ladies. I was privileged to have the nicest parents in the world.
I have tried to pass that on to my kids.
Thank you ALL for your support.
Don

Please, tell us more about your virtues. You seem to have barely scratched the surface.

deskil, I would ask that you please try to see things from a different perspective even if it is one you yourself don't have (which, btw, is fine too). You seem quick to judge Sonnydaze and his motivation to post here. But isn't the truth that he could be motivated by many things? Why give more credence to one belief versus another, unless you know something we don't, in which case I would invite you to share. The reality is that his motivation really should not matter as long as the bottom line is good. Would the invention of the electric light bulb be any less beneficial to mankind if Edison was motivated by greed, fame, and wealth? I don't think so.

Frankly, I personally do not care what his motivation is. And with that said, I also believe him when he says what it is. But again, who cares. Any way you cut it, he is gifting at least 12 Spydercos to people he does not know, but whom he believes can greatly use them. That IS the bottom line and that IS a very good thing. Maybe one of them will save a life someday. He will likely never know. But the mere possibility and his giving them away is more than enough for me. Stay generous, Sonnydaze. The world needs more people like you.

on_the_edge....,
Thank you and others for your support.

I do appreciate your comments, and realize that not everyone views the world through the same pair of eyes.

I'm going to close this, but stay tuned for my 8,000 post GAW.

Was not my intention to raise red flags to aggravate the bull.
Did want to explain why my 7,000 post was a GAVE-away, and NOT a GAW per usual practice.
However, it appears as though I overshot the mark... :)
Best regards to all,
Don
