Just finishing this one up, and thought I'd share. The 7-1/2" long blade is .275" thick W2 steel, with some freaky hamon, and a polished fuller. Both the spine and the squidgey bit below the ricasso are beveled, and the 'guard', if such a small thing could be called such, is black G10. The handle is a wasp-waisted frame handle of G10, pinned and epoxied in place, then covered in black rayskin and wrapped, with a sterling silver menuki. Point of balance is just behind the 'guard'.

As I've never had any luck in capturing hamon with a camera, here's a crummy video I took with my phone in the shop, as there's not enough sunlight up here in the Snow Belt:

Thanks for looking!

Wonderful work Matt - absolutely KILLER hamon :thumbsup:

Is that DHIII forged bar you used? Brine or Parks 50 quench?

Thanks, everyone!

Hey TK! This is Aldo’s 3rd generation of W2. I think I figured out what it wants for normalizing and thermal cycling to break up that awful coarse spherodized state it comes in. Park’s #50, as you can tell from the dip the tip took. Negative sori can ruin a knife, But that gentle downward sweep really works on this knife, I think. Almost has a shark-like vibe to it.

Love the whole piece but I have to say, that handle is wonderful. Looks like it fills the hand nicely and the ratio between handle and blade is perfect. Watched the video a few times....
