* My friend wanted to know about the difference between the Camp Tramp handles and the 711 so I figured I would post some pics for you all as well.

Here they are side by side

Here they are from the top

And as you can see with the 711 it is pretty much the same.

Hope this helps Doc.

Here are the comparison pics for you Fumbler.

Notice the slight difference in blade shape

the CT is wider in the blade then the 711

The finger guard before the choil is more pronounced on the CT while the 711 has a more sleek look and feel, offering a lower profile.

In my opinion they are the same handle size. The Camp Tramp feels more solid or hard, hard being the proper word I believe. The Camp Tramp is also a older knife and my thinking is that maybe the res c gets a little more solid with age.

All in all I find it hard to tell the difference in a blind fold test. Word to the wise, be careful of the edges when working blind folded!!!

It just arrived boys and girls and it's awesome!
Pic soon:)

It's here boys and it's great!,

Pics coming.

Here are some better pics, I got a little too excited on the others!!

I have been waiting for this for a while. I like the 511 but I thought it was smaller than I had expected, ( the handle, choil, etc.) I have come to love it as a small edc knife and it fits the bill.

But come on, WE love bigger knives.

The 711 fits the bill. This thing is awesome!!!

The handle is full size and comfortable. The choil is is big enough for my sausage size fingers.

It came pretty dog gone sharp. It will shave hair with a little effort and paper cutting isnt easier in a shredder :)

This is going to be a big hit!   :)

Here she is brand spanking new

Here she is in all her black glory!

I got mine too. While reading quickly I was thinking "HEY, my didn't come with any hemostatic agent", then I read further, funny. I hope I can get out and play with mine soon. Not tonight though, it is date night with my wife which is more important! But tomorrow evening, no tree limb will be safe.

My first impressions: I like it, it is big but not too heavy. The blade profile is interesting, a long flat then quickly sweeping to the tip. Maybe the 5.11 is the same way, but because it is bigger it appears more pronounced. I can tell they are hand made. One of mine is slightly longer than the other and the profile starts its sweep in a slightly different location. I enjoy seeing the differences in hand made items.

It looks like the Camp Tramp is wider than the 711. Is this true?
Can you give a direct comparison with the CT?
I've always wanted a CT and the 711 seemed like it was going to be almost the same thing. Now I'm wondering if it'll be as good as a CT, specifically in the chopping department.

Dang! Thats nice! Thanks for the pics sar5!! :D

I didn't think the blade profile on the 711 could get any better but side by side I think I prefer the Camp Tramp. Nice buy! Still pining for a Sage/green G10 Rucki, but if I make it down the list in time...

no posers :)

I took it down to the flood plain to baton some logs and make a fire just to try it out... Still sharp even though I dug through sandy clay and dirty flood debris with it. Coating is barely smoothed.
Sorry I forgot to take any pics of when I was doing anything interesting, didn't remember to pull out my phone til I was on my way back to the car... Maybe next time I'll remember. This blade is definitely gonna be a regular on trips in place of a full on chopper

I forgot to mention, the handle is EXACTLY the same size as that of the old camp tramp/ battle rats, so if you liked those, you'll probably like this, I still think it could stand to be a little fuller (and I don't have particularly large hands) But it's still very comfortable and is good for prolonged working :)

Edit: just noticed sar5's excellent pics of the 711 and the camp tramp, good job dude :) I haven't got either to compare it to anymore, just memories ;)

Thanks sar5 for the pics.
The camp tramp looks nicer; wish I had bought one years ago :(
The 711 still looks like a good knife.
How do the primary grinds compare? Are the primary grind angles similar?
Also, is there any weight difference with the 711 being a tiny bit narrower?

Trailbum, thatnks for posting that pic. I have an RD7 so that gives a good reference.
I hope it performs at least as good as my RD7 (i have the regular one, not the bush). I was hoping the 711 would be better than the RD7 in every way but just from the looks it seems like an RD7 would be a better chopper due to the extra heft.
