I just heard from family in law in India who experienced shaking houses a few minutes ago that there was an Earthquake in Nepal. Had to be quite big to be felt 500km away in India.
I hope all Kamis and their Families are doing fine and know that we are there for them if they need help.

HI forever.

This just happened, so news reports are sketchy, but it is bad.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS -- APRIL 25, 2015, 3:26 A.M. E.D.T.

KATHMANDU, Nepal — A strong magnitude-7.9 earthquake shook Nepal's capital and the densely populated Kathmandu Valley before noon Saturday, collapsing houses, centuries-old temples and cutting open roads in the worst tremor in the Himalayan nation in over 80 years.

Dozens of people with injuries were being brought to the main hospital in central Kathmandu. There was no immediate estimate on fatalities.

Several buildings collapsed in the center of the capital, the ancient Old Kathmandu, including centuries-old temples and towers, said resident Prachanda Sual.

He said he saw people running through the streets in panic. Ambulance sirens blared and government helicopters hovered overhead.

National radio warned people to stay outdoors and maintain calm because more aftershocks were feared. A 6.6-magnitude aftershock hit about an hour after the initial quake.

Old Kathmandu city is a warren of tightly packed, narrow lanes with poorly constructed homes piled on top of each other.....

The epicenter was 80 kilometers (49 mile) northwest of Kathmandu, he said. The Kathmandu Valley is densely populated with nearly 2.5 million, with the quality of buildings often poor....

The sustained quake also was felt in India's capital of New Delhi. AP reporters in Indian cities of Lucknow in the north and Patna in the east also reported strong tremors.

The death toll in Nepal after a massive earthquake stands at 597, according to Laxmi Dhakal, a spokesperson for Nepal's Ministry of Home Affairs.

There have been at least 15 aftershocks of 4.5 magnitude and higher in Nepal since a massive 7.8 earthquake struck the mountainous Asian nation around midday Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Many people in Kathmandu are waiting in open spaces outside for fear of more powerful tremors, witnesses said.

Thanks guys.
Even in India so far from the epicenter 20 people died
and then there were 18 mountain climbers who got hit by an avalanche.
I hope it stays at 450 in Nepal. Its very sad but given the magnitude and population density in the area it could have been much much worse.
The more smoke the better.

The ring of fire seems very active. Lets hope and pray that the disaster in Nepal is less than I fear.

Just read the news and came to check in...scary. Prayers out from Wyoming for our friends and the rest of Nepal and region.

Amen to all the hopeful thoughts expressed here. I just read about it so I came here to send good thoughts; smoke and prayers to the Kamis and families and friends that may be effected. Blessings to all the people in Nepal.
