Hello all! Around Xmas time I got my first Busse, a #7. However I haven't been able to do any "real-world" testing until now. So this afternoon I went out and started looking for things to hack. I found a couple of felled trees with an approximate diameter of 2"-3" and started chopping. The #7 went through in less than a dozen or so chops. I chopped the same trees into multiple sections to simulate chopping several trees. In all I chopped the equivalent of a dozen trees.
Then I started splitting the smaller sections into kindling as if I were preparing a fire. Again no problem splitting the junks up.
Next step was to clear a little brush. Old dead branches were a bit of a chore as they were so springy (SP?) but green branches were not an issue.
After about an hour or so of this I went inside and had a close look at the knife. There were no dings, notches, roll-over or any visible damage of any kind. The knife was still shaving sharp (a little less then when I started) and could push-cut paper easily. A few stokes on a steel and a few more on a strop and it was exactly as it was before I cut anything.
The end result? Really good edge-retention. Better than I've experienced thus far. Later this summer I plan to put my Busse along with a custom khukri and an RTAK in a serrious competition. I'll be sure to give my results in far greater detail than this little experiment.
