Just bought this old Collins WWII machete for $7 at a junk store.

She needs some TLC but it looks to be all surface rust with no major pitting.

Any suggestions on where to start?:D

I wouldnt think you should have any problem getting double your money's worth in fun out of that one.Clean it up and sharpen it.

i m assuming that it's in a used condition?
that being the case,
you would be amazed how those rust spots would clear up with some actual use...

 That is certainly worth more than $7, even its current condition and without a sheath.

70% isopropyl alcohol and 800 grit sandpaper. I just picked up an old Vietnam era Kabar from my local antique store, and removed all the rust, dirt, grime. etc with this, as well as polish the blade up.

Spray some rem oil on and let it sit. A lot will come off with just that. If it needs more I usually scotchbrite it then buff for a few seconds on a wheel just to smooth everything over and protect a bit.

$7? Bargain! Really nice find, I'd take it out and use it, that will take out some of the rust :)
