Oh great I dragged my 7 y.o. bro into this
smile.gif

He wants a 3" blade liner lock tanto style knife.

nothing too fancy, somewhere under the $50 price range.

Make sure its blade holds a hair-poppin edge for a while so I dont have to sharpen it everyweek

He will prob. be carrying it to impress
wink.gif
.

He does already has a knife and uses mine all the time

He knows it is only a tool and would never (I hope
smile.gif
) use for offensive purposes

thanks for the help

Not to be a grumpy old fart or anything, but where in the world does a 7 year old get $50.00? I have zero problem with a 7 year old owning a knife since I had a few at that age,, But,, Crimmeny, 50 bucks?!? Maybe something a bit more lose-able is a better idea for an EDC?

Hi DeLightsabor. Let me second Hal's suggestion. A SAK or a Gerber LST or something like that would be more appropriate, IMO.

What do your parents think of all this? Yeah, I've read some past threads on you, and I personally think it's great you are here. You seem to be quite at home here as well. I do have a concern about your soliciting info for a seven-year-old "on the internet" (please insert Time Magazine full color cover horror story headline of the week here). What exactly do you mean he would "carry it to impress?"

Then again, maybe I'm just jealous

because I didn't even have a SAK till I was in junior high, nor a lockblade (very early Gerber LST) till I was in high school! On the other hand, at least I could carry them both to school without worrying that I'd attract a SWAT operation (I graduated high school in 1978).

I'd make sure the parents are involved in this particular decision. And I'm sorry this country is in such a mess that old farts like me worry about your erring on the side of caution. Finally, I'd make sure your brother has a knife he can REALLY use at his age, and NOT one to "impress" others.

Of course, this modern world mess ain't MY fault, ya hear?

Good luck and be careful. When you get enough sheeple riled up with fear, they can hurt you stampeding their way to the nearest exit.

I know you've "heard it all before", but read the good advice from Safety Guy and RH. Then read it again. It's the "to impress" part that worries me a little. Good luck - there are LOTS of great choices out there for $50 or even less.

carry to impress was suposed to be a joke*
(notice I added the little "

")

Now another thing that I dont want is a pointy edge, he can be just a little immature at times

and about the fifty dollor range: I meant under the fifty dollor range. (although he does own $100, the only reason I don't have that much is 'cause I spent it on knives

)

Hehe... Oh the memories of my first knife... I was 7 because I was in 2nd grade and my Bro had left for the airforce. he left me a Taylo/Seto Tanto bladed Butterfly knife that was heavy as lead and had rosewood inserts and a nice nick in the blade from having it hit the latch.

I still have the knife to this day, although it's a bit worse for wear but still my favorite. I didn't learn the correct way to open it till last year when I found BF, before then I was doing a butchered basic horizontal.

I think if he is going to be responsible with it, then hand him down a nice knife from your own collection. It will mean a little bit more to him, and if it's still around when he gets older, he will have a nice memory about it.

thanks for all the replies
