I'm looking around for presents to myself for my upcoming birthday... She Who Must Be Obeyed has said to keep it around $70 (I might could squeak another 10 but that would be pushing it :p) and I'm at a loss. You guys got any ideas? I'm open for suggestions.

70?

maybe a new Flashlight from Fenix? Several excellant lights in that price range.

Perhaps a new tarp? You could score a most excellant siltarp for around that much.

You got a Guyot/GSI cup? You could get those, and a 10x4 maxpedition bottle holder.

A pair of Chacos! Treat your feet bro. The most comfy outdoor sandal there is.

You could score some nice Merrils too.

What are you needin?.

If it was me Id go with some new Chacos, but I dont know what youre lackin gear wise.

Maybe a Casio G-Shock or a new pack (Max. 10x4 w/ Strap & extra pouch)
Maybe a Flashlight or new Blade .

We need to narrow this down, What would you like for your Birthday ? A Knife ? A TomaHawk ? A Axe or Hatchet ? You get the Idea, Then I'd let you know what I would get In that catagory, I guess If I was gonna spend 70.00 on a Gift for myself I'd buy Both size's of Oxhead Axe Head's from Ben's BackWood's, Then I'd have so save up for Handle's !

Darn I just checked It out, 70.00 Buck's just wont do It !

+1

Check out the TA30 from GoingGear. Its about $10 more than your limit but worth every cent.

There are a few under $70 but if I had to suggest one, it would be the TA30.

Other than that, I'd opt for the XL Bail Out Bag from CountyComm along with some paracord, a Fox 40 whistle, a coupe sporks and a couple other low buck essentials.

You tell here that you want the $70 to take her and you out for a special evening together, because that's worth more than any knife/camping gear/etc.

Trust me on this. :)

Doc

Spoken like a man who has been happily married a lot longer than the rest of us. You, sir, are a genius.

The Going Gear flashlight ideas are brilliant as well. :D

Yup, Doc was there to give marriage tips to Adam & Eve! :D

$70 can buy a lot of various gear. You might get into a silnylon tarp or poncho. Maybe you coupd get a water filter. Maybe a sleeping pad. . .

So, waddaya need?

A massage without a happy ending. Or listen to Doc.

Otherwise, a Rat Izula and spend the other $18 at Storl's Going gear buying a Mische metal rod and the rest on button compass's, whistle zipper pulls and all those little things you want tied everywhere but can't find them in the hardware store.

Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern! That's what I asked for and received for Father's Day...About $58 + tax at the local WalMart. That leaves a bit of change to get extra mantles and a gas can dedicated to it too! Coleman fuel is too expensive to use regularly, that's why I wanted the dual fuel capability.

Yowza, Doc definitely wins. And that, folks, is how you play the game to win. Or get laid. But I repeat myself.

Most folks are right, need more info. Could get a new Wetterlings axe plus a mora, a Becker, a new pack...
