I thought I’d make you all suffer with a little reflection on the occasion of my 700th post.

I got my first knife at age 8. A Cub Scout three blader, one large spear point, a can opener, and a screw driver. That was forty-eight years and more than a hundred knives ago not counting kitchen knives.

I like and dislike some things I’ve seen here on the Forums lately.

I like the new forum members who challenge us with their questions and press the manufacturers to make the perfect knife after some of us old timers have accepted what is certainly better as good enough.

I dislike a trend I see towards lack of common courtesy and a laziness that leads to ready, fire, aim comments.:barf:

Yes, I know many of you are saying “Roshi, didn’t Spark invent the foot-in-mouth icon especially for people like you?”.:footinmou

What I’m talking about are those who post questions that flame manufacturers without doing any research or contacting the manufacturer first. Worse yet, they do it in open forum rather than having the cajones to do it in the manufacturer’s forum. A case in point is a forum member who criticized a well known maker’s liner lock as being flimsy comparing it in a pic to a Sebenza and an SnG. Do some research first. Don’t flame until you have no other option.

The lack of common courtesy is in response to selling/buying/trading posts . I don’t mind if you reject my offer. I do mind if you never respond to my email or my posted response to your advertising post. I took out all my frustration on some one today but I could name a dozen instances over the last two months where emails have gone unanswered. Grow up. Learn what it means to be a gentleman or a lady.

In closing I would like to thank all those who have patiently answered my newbie questions (hey I’ve still got about 1000 saved up  ), those who have gently corrected my occasional faux pas (keep up the good work :D ), and especially all those forum members who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting through knife deals.
