I,ve been thinking about getting a pocket knife to go along with my 110 (for small jobs) and was wondering what the differences were between the 300 series and the 700 series. Is it just the handle material or do you get anything else for the extra money. Also, I've been looking at the Uncle Henry. Any reasons I should stay with Buck? Thanks

I suggest you look carefully at the construction of the 700 series knives, particularly compared to an Uncle Henry. I am speaking of especially three bladed knives here: for many years all manufacturers assembled the knife and then bent the blades slightly so that they did not collide on closing. A careful examination of the 700's and later 300's will reveal a small set of spacers to offset the opposing blades so they pass one another. It will also expose the fact that EACH blade has it's own spring, two opposing blades do not share a common spring at opposite ends. Do your own comparison; then the logic is then simple. Who put the time and thought into design?

Vern's right! In fact, as part of a swap, he just sent me a mint condition 709 Yearling (thanks again, Vern). It is a wonderfully constucted pocketknife. Rugged as a tank, yet small enough to ride comfortably in any sort of pants. Sometimes you just don't want a 9-pound knife!

Alright,it didnt take much to sway me, but I'm still trying to figure out the diferences between the 700 and the 300.(besides the handle)What does the extra money get me?

I have a 703 that I like vry much. I also have several of the 300s that I also like very much. I use them all at different times. If you will notice the bolsters are larger on the 700s as well as the blades are a little thicker and larger. The 700s are heafty pocket knives. Besides all that you get the best service of any company anywhere.

Always Buck. Why not both, one for even days, one for odd.

Thats a good idea Guy. But I only have enough money for the even days. But I figure since I already have the 110 for the heavy work, then the 300 should do. Sounds like a plan eh? P.S. If anyone disagrees please let me no. Thanks

Can't make up your mind whether to buy the Caddilac or the Mercedes huh? If you are around solvents and acids, take the 300 because they will take the finish off of the 700 handles. Sideways stress on the blade and other tough useage, take the 700
