703 Colt date?

I have a colt that was purchased May 1994. I'm trying to figure out the actually year it was (94,93,Etc) made and what it was made from. It is stamped 703 /. Does anyone know? It was a gift back in 94 and I've had it put up for a few years and pulled it out last night.The steel seems a little harder to sharpen the my 420 110. So I was just wondering if it was differant steel. It could just be me.

Eric: The / on the tang indicates it was made in 1993. \ is the symbol for 1994. 425 high Carbon steel was used until 1994, then Buck changed to 420 HC. The 703 model was introduced in the 1980 catalog, and then was dropped from the Buck line in 2002. The introductory price in 1980 was $22.00.
