703 Series How-To Question

I was just fortunate enough to score a very nice 703 on the big auction site. I am planning clean it up - not much needed - buff the bolsters, etc., then apply a coating or two of gun stock wax. Is there anything that I can use on the 'Buck' label - the faux shield that is the one thing not to like about these otherwise marvelous knives - to really protect it? Will the wax hurt it?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!

I think he is worried about polishing the ink of the shield/escutcheon and wondering if gunstock wax would hurt it.....

That can be a problem. Don't get a polishing wheel with compound on it near the shield. DM
