I picked up a 311 and 703 in a trade on Sunday, among other slipjoints. The 311 had great walk and talk. The 703's spey and sheepsfoot blades had great snap, but the main blade, while not loose, had no snap or resistance at all. Several months back, Knifeworld had done an article on the 7XX series of Bucks, and commented that the first wave consisted of folders with bad backsprings. My 703 has the script Buck logo on the blade and bolster, the 703 and USA are in standard block format. I did not pick this up for collectability, I picked it up to use. While the blade doesn't have any problems, would it be worth it to send it in to Buck, maybe I could get that walk and talk back in the main blade? Either way, I really like both, and have been carrying the 703, without any problems. One last question, in the Knifeworld article, they stated that the blades were listed as high carbon Swedish steel, any specific steel name for these? I had originally thought they were 440C before I read the article.
The others that I picked up; a RAT stockman Dan Burke collaboration style, Remington trapper possibly from the 90's no date, Kingston electrician.
