I picked this one up recently off the bay.... and was quite pleasantly suprised when it came in. I hadn't seen a 700 series in brass before and I like it! :)
Just wondering if these were only made for special orders, or if they were also a catalog offering?

Wow, I've never seen one and I look hard. Can't be too common then. Another to add to the "list".

That's kinda what I thought Desoto, this one looked like any other in the listing, but real beat up.
I was gonna steal the shield for another and use this one for EDC.

Russ Donoghue collects that model and is well read on it. He's out of pocket but will be back. In my collection I have all of them as well but only the early ones and I've not seen a brass one before. DM

I checked and we only made about 1500 of the 704 with brass bolsters. Same quantity of 703's. The whole herd of 700's were offered in brass for a short while but they never appeared in a Buck catalog. I dont have any info on the one you have with the logo on the wood side.

Thank You Joe, I guess that was a lucky find:)
But now I have a Grail knife: the 703 in brass!
You never know...

Of all the pictures lost on Blade Forums, sitflyer’s brass 700 series are among the biggest loss.

I love the 704 - best slip joint ever - and would love to find a brass one. Or even just see some brass 700 series. Who has one to share here?

And yes, I dug up an old thread on purpose for the history so we don’t all have to go searching to read up on brass 700’s.

It took me several years to assemble a complete set of brass 700s. They still show up occasionally on the auction site and one sure way to tell if they are brass is to look at the shield. It will be brass too. Sometimes tarnished nickel silver bolsters look darker, like brass in photos, but their shields don't seem to tarnish and stay silver colored. Good luck finding a brass Maverick. I think I've posted these photos before:

Fantastic collection! Thank you for sharing those. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for any of the brass ones that pop up.
