Can someone tell me if this is a discontinued model or still in production. I've checked a couple sites that I know carry GEC knives but haven't been able to find any in stock.

GEC does not produce all of their models continuously. You will have to wait for them to do another run of the #71 pattern or find one on the secondary market.

It's worth waiting for. 71 is suck a great knife.

Yes it is. Never handled one but i have a Case Sodbuster Jr. and i can only imagine how nice it would with the fit and finish of a GEC with the full flat grind. I'm gona be watching closely for their next run.

I carried a sod jr for 5 yrs till I got ahold of a bullnose, they're just a tad bigger than the jr but not much, you'll love it..!

I recently traded into a Bull Nose in O1 steel. Love the fatter handles on the sodbusters for real cutting. Half stop is a nice addition as well. Like others have said, keep your eyes peeled, they are worth it:thumbup:

I have one in Orange Delrin, and an SFO in Sunbrite Acrylic. It's just a nice hard working knife. Although I EDC a 77 most of the time, the Bullnose is my go to camping or hiking folder. If you can locate one, jump on it. You will not regret the purchase.

Thanks guys! I have a couple offers and am considering going with a very generous offer from a member for a natural micarta. At the risk of sounding dumb, what does SFO stand for?

"Special Factory Order"

Usually a GEC dealer special orders unique handle materials (and sometime entire knife configurations, like the #15 or #77 barlows) that are manufactured in addition to GEC's general knife production.

Special Factory Order. Dealers use that as a tool to bring a unique feature to a particular pattern in production. So if it was an SFO, it was only offered in those natural micarta covers from one particular dealer.

SFO stands for Special Factory Order. Only one dealer gets that particular combination. The difference is usually the handle material choice but sometimes it is a complete run for a particular dealer that no other dealer gets.
I also can confirm the 71 bullnose is a nice and hardworking knife. I have to rate it a few notches above the Case product.
Take care,
Rick

Ahhh... Got it, thanks!! Looking forward to possibly getting my hands on one. Hopefully sooner than later.
Thanks to everyone again for the info!!

The 71 is one knife I don't have that I really wish I did. I never have been able to catch one on the exchange. I have either not had the money or been a little late on the draw. I am a Sodbuster fan and have examples of both the regular and the Jr. but no #71 or #21 and have been wanting a # 71 for a long time I love the # 71 pattern and the 01 tool steel intrigues me. Hopefully someday everything will come together and I will be able to snag one.

Enough about me good luck and I hope you get one soon my friend.

Put me on the waiting list for a 71 as well....

Seems to be a highly respected and capable knife, with excellent F&F.

Picked these up from the run GEC did last fall. The #71 is an awesome knife!

Very nice ED and btb01! Great looking bunch. I'm still looking for one... Wink wink

I was wondering, can any one tell me if a #71 bullnose was ever made in Osage orange AND O1 steel?
