This knife is just gorgeous. I want it.

How does the Twist Damasteel compare to the usual suspects like S30V and 154CM ?

Damasteel seems to list it as RWL34 and PMC27, so while you're cutting witht he RWL34, my expectation would be CPM154 performance

The Gold Class Benchmade 710-141 released for the 15th Anniversary of the Axis lock looks really amazing!

At a street price of $510 this one is not too outrageous. Anybody know how many are to be produced?

I just wish they did something else with the liners. IMO it cheapens it to see the drilled out holes through the ctek. Either don't drill them, maybe mill that area out fully, or considering the price of the knife they could have even lasered in a design that would show through when it is lit up like in the pic.... probably just being picky :p

If I chose to get one , despite the fact that it's unique and "pretty" , I'd still wanna carry it and use it. Is that foolish of me ?

So the Twist Damasteel blade performance is similar to CPM154 ? I've never used CPM154. How does that compare to S30V or even M390 ? Those two I'm familiar with.

Putting aside the many variables of material cut, testing method, heat treat, definition of dull, etc., in order to generalize the comparison to a sentence, I'd put CPM154 as a little under to about the same as S30v and well below M390

I see. Thank you. That makes me question the $510 price tag of the 710-141. I think more bang for the buck would be had with the standard D2 710.

Nowhere close to M390. Better than bar stock 154CM, but less than s30v. The price tag for the Damasteel comes in the aesthetics, not in the steel function.

Yes I think you're right. But I'm still disappointed to hear about the performance (or lack thereof ) of the Twist Damasteel. For that kind of money I'd rather have something with M390 or even S90V. I do think the 710-141 is beautiful. But I'm after more than just a pretty face.

You could always buy this and an M390 exclusive (if you don't have it already), then do a blade swap. I'm sure you could find a buyer for a standard handle with the damasteel blade

BM always goes cheap on their gold class in one aspect or another. In this case, they should have gone with Ti liners. It cheapens the value of a so called custom level knife.

As far as Gold Class knives go , I think I'm now more interested in the 7505-132. Same price as the 710-141 but it has an M390 blade. And it's an automatic.

Such a PURDY knife, with a real PROUD price! IMO Damasteel is more for the aesthetics than function.

I've been using another Damasteel knife some recently and I must say I am very happy with how it performs. I think it performs closer to CPM-154 and RWL-34 than it does to 154CM or ATS-34. I accidentally smacked the blade pretty hard, and like my CPM-154 knives, the blade didn't seem to really mind this. I hit the tip pretty hard using my EP and again it really didn't seem to bother the blade. So from my usage it's got good edge retention and great toughness. I can't speak to corrosion resistance as the blade has Eezox on it, but I've read like RWL-34 that it's very good at resisting corrosion.

So while the 710-141's price is far from practical (especially considering there are CPM-M4 and M390 variants in existence), I think the steel is plenty practical for an EDC, and it's really pretty to look at.
