Just recently acquired a used 710D2 & have a question regarding the general finish of the black G10.
The one I received has what I call a flat mat (non shiny) finish. I notice however that other new 710's seem to have a shiny/glossy G10 finish, and or a mat finish like mine. Does the G10 vary that comes out of BM's factory?
Thanks for your help.

After 15 years of production there are a lot of varieties in the Model 710. Shiny flat black G-10 seems to have been used on earlier models. Somewhere over the last few years, they switched to a mix that had more texture and as a result lent more grip. I like these latter scales much better, though my pocket may complain more from the extra wear and tear!

+1 what jkarp_53 said. Unfortunately my standard D2 710 has the slick plastic feeling scales. Using it on a hot day just beginning to sweat makes a firm grip on the knife very difficult. Keyman has many differing textures and qualities of G10 available for the 710. I am currently going over options for two pairs of 710 G10 scales, the second pair being for my KW exclusive 1401, from him and cannot wait to get them

Here's used vs new G10.

The top knife was carried and used every day for 15+ years.

I suggest micarta. It never gets slippery, even when polished smooth.

I've bought new 710s and some had a shiny G10 which I figured may not be G10 at first but some kind of injection molded stuff. Others had definitive layers and the lines on the handle were actually useful. The shiny is not only a byproduct of age or wear.

I asked this question to BM, and a very nice gentlemen who happened to be a 710 fanatic said that the G10 does not really vary. The glossy G10 I have seen in some dealer pictures & private pictures just may be the fact they have oiled them before the picture is taken. I do know they get shinier with age & time in the pocket.
Thanks for your reply's.
