how long does it take for a new 710 to break in? i don't want to loosen the pivot anymore because then it will have blade play

but i can't flick open the knife with my thumb using the thumb stud....

i can just flick it open with my wrist however....but that takes some effort

I play with my axis lock knives almost every night while watching TV, so new Benchmades get broken-in in about a week.

Have you tried adding a bit of lube to the pivot? Even a broken-in 710 will feel slow if not lubed regularly.

how free if the blade supposed to come out?

isn't there supposed to be some resistance so the blade just won't fall out of the handle?

I had to adjust the pivot on my just slightly to get it to come out easily with just my thumb. now that i'm use to the knife and the arc of the thumb stud travel it's easy. I was initially pushing too much out and not enough up/forward if that makes any sense.

Hey TrickyVic what type of lube do you use?

will it damage the knife if i tighten my pivot a little and still flick it open hard with my wrist? anymore loosening and there will be some blade play

I need to lubricate my 710 too, I didn't notice it because I never used the Axis method for closing, but I can't even if I try now. The blade barely moves.

Guess I'll get some mineral oil too. I have some Hoppe's #9 but I'm not sure if that would be good to use, and I can't find it. either.

i guess my question is how tight should my blade be? i don't want it flipping around like i see on youtube videos. will it hurt my 710 to tighten the pivot screw? does it hurt the washers etc.?

i just snug mine up, not tight, not loose. if i can't easily thumb flick it without the use of my wrist then it's too tight. If there is blade play it's too loose. i haven't had to adjust mine much... set it and forget it on my sample.

didn't have any mineral oil so i used some Rem Oil with teflon (after bath)... super slick now.

Try pushing with different intents, different angles.
I couldn't make a BM do anything effectively until I understood their philosophy of utilization when a BM blade was in my hand.

Hey Bali,
I take it your "Jedi" on that other forum. I just saw your posts. If your gonna loctite it make sure to avoid using the red (high-strength). I use plumbers tape and works great at keeping the pivots snug.

Yes, you'll damage the knife with continued wrist flicks. Clean the pivot bolt. Put a micro-drop of oil on each side of the pivot on the liner sides. Put a couple of drops of blue loctite on the pivot and adjust to suit yourself, then let the loctite cure.

Hoppe's #9 is a cleaning solution/ powder solvent, not a lube. Stick with the mineral oil, Rem Oil or similar.

watch out using hoppes since i think it might damage some plastics. i have an older 710 in d2 & 2 of the newer 710-1 in m390. all my knives work like lightning. --dennis
