Hi all I am trying to decide if I should get a 710 or a AFCK. I would just use it for everyday use with some hard use thrown in. so which shoud I get?

I have both.
I like the 806D2 better.

It's a matter of personal taste, I think.

I would say that this is definately a matter of personal taste, but i prefer the 710. I have a 710 with 154cm that i have absolutely beat to death, and i'd like to get another, especially an m2 version. For me the handle on the AFCK was slightly too long and made it less comfortable for pocket carry.

I am Biased,I carry and EDC a 710 and a 705.

Love em both,so my vote for the heavy duty goes to the 710.
(Note,In any steel version)

i have had 8-10 AFCKs and 3 710s thru the yrs, and though the 710 is good i think the AFCK is better, as long as we are talking about the axis afck of course, though really the std AFCK would be very close imho i like the handle better. dont like the tip down carry on the old AFCKs though.

I bought a 710HS and AFCK at about the same time. Traded off the AFCK, the 710HS is my EDC. The handle on the AFCK is very comfortable, but too big for me. I also prefer the thumb stud and the blade profile of the 710. The 710 is a better slicer by far. The 806 is more of a stabber. If you sharpen with benchstones, I'd go with the 806 because the 710 has a bit of recurve in the blade that's difficult to sharpen properly with a flat stone.

For your intended use, it sounds like the 710 would be the better choice. However, I would try to handle both if possible, since these types of decisions are very subjective.

If ya dont mind a BIG knife in your pocket then go with the AFCK.. If ya dont want to go too big for edc, then get the 710 - its still a large folder but in the pocket there is a size difference between them. I find in the hand, the AFCK has a little better ergos - but both great benchmades no doubt

I much prefer the grip on the 806 and the blade on the 710. There's no simple answer, is there?

Depends on which you like better... Thumb stud or hole. I have a 710 and love it. I plan to get an 806 as my next Benchmade. I like both opening methods, but I grew up on Spydercos (so I like a hole over a thumb stud most of the time). It depends on what you feel is better... They're both great, so handle both if you can. One thing that's already been mentioned: the 806 will be easier to sharpen on a flat stone, since the 710 is recurved (you really need rods to sharpen it). This, however, makes the 710 a better slicer. Also, the handle size differs. The 710's handle is more appropriate for the blade size, IMO. The 806's handle is a little too long when compared to the length of the blade (the handle is designed for ergonomics first, and to match with the blade length second).

I'd go with a 710 if I were you, but then again I plan to get/carry/use both. :D

Peace.

Until you have put both in your hands, it will be almost impossible to say which is right for you.

For me the 806 feels much better in hands and has proven itself to be very versatile. It is definitely not a single-purpose knife. I have no intentions of using it for SD, and it works very well for every day cutting chores.

You can't go wrong with either, and if you don't like the one you start with they are easy enough to trade or sell to get the other.

Carried my BM710HSSR for a good 4 years. Carried my BM806 maybe 4 days, probalby more like 4 hours. :) Lately I've been carring a BM Doug Ritter Grip, but the BM710 has been calling to me lately.
