I've been edcing my 710 for a bit now, and it has served me well. Now it's time for it to get some TLC. I want to replace the back spacer with standoffs and replace the scales with something a bit more class and a bit better feel.

I've been doing research online but can't come to a consensus, do I need
.165 or .190 thickness spacers? My digital caliper is at home otherwise I would measure.

On to the scales, I'm not sure exactly what I want but so.ething other than the basic black. I do like the looks of the black and blue micarta (I think they are micarta at least) scales I've seen flashed around here. Can you give me some direction and suggestions on where to find quality scales for a 710. Also I'd like so.ethk g with a bit more grip and maybe even a touch more meat in the middle.

Finally I think I will switch over to a deep carry clip. my current clip is getting a bit beat up.

Pics to follow as the face lift takes place.

My 710 – D2 came with unthreaded round SS standoffs measuring .180 long. One day my son tossed it onto my desk and the rear standoff screw just popped out. I tried screwing it back in but it would not bite the first threads, so I tried the other screw and that did not work either. I put the screw that had fallen out in backwards and the thread felt nice and smooth for both the liner and the screw. From my homework it seems .165 is the length I wanted. So, what I did was take the standoffs down from .180 to .170 with some 400 wet and dry. That did the trick and while I have not used Loctite, the standoff screws have not come undone for about five months now.

The ApostleP took his 710 – D2 OEM scales and did a subtle recontour to add a little melt and better access to the gimping; Keyman pattern holes have been reported by many folks to increase traction. I agree with you that a little bulge in the middle would be hand filling adding to the sense of grip. I was also thinking of removing every other stud on the gimping which seems too fine to my hands.

Keyman, those are some sweet scales! They look very grippy. Are they thicker than OEM? How come no one ramps their 710 scales for more full proof thumb-stud access?

Oh yeah, they are definitely thicker at the center.
OEM scales for the 710 are only .090" thick.
But hey I'll contour the scales anyway you want.
On the CF one below the customer wanted them pretty thick, contoured and with just slight access to the axis button.

Some just want the scales to be flat...

and some are looking for something completely different...

Those red C-tek would be really neat with white holey liners... :D

And I can vouch for how great Keyman's work is... Contoured Ivory Snake Juma, holey, with matte finish... I love these scales should have done this ages ago.

Beautiful work keyman, I have an idea what I'm looking for now. I'll drop you a pm and we'll see what we can do.

I think something like this is what I have in mind with a little palm swell like the griptilian scales.

(Shamelessly stolen pic from the net, unfortunately I can't remember where. If it's yours sorry.)

Thanks guys, and yes, it takes the 710 from great, to amazing... Its going to be my dress carry when its done... :D Has the contour as well as the holes... And yes Josh's regrind makes it an incredible cutter/slicer. I wouldn't do a lot of twisting or prying, but that's not what I use knives for. So very very nice..

Please forgive me for jumping in here but I have to ask. Keyman, could you do this and if so how much would it cost.
Thanks you in advance and again, I am sorry for hijacking this thread.
Frank.

This black and blue G10 is a standard 710-1401 it is made by BM like this for one of the dealers. I had one and sold it because I like the "standard" scale better and Keyman's better than either. :) but that's just me. The 710-1401 I had was kinda slippery for such a "scalloped" scale.

Thanks Rapt_up.

What he said.
Not my creation; BM's.
I too had a 710-1401 with the blue and black scalloped scales that I found to be quite slippery, so I gave it the stepped holy treatment. :D
