i'm hearing a lot of talk about teflon vs. bronze washers. i just ordered a BM 710HS and am wonder what it comes with. i ran a search and found nothing.

Older ones have nylatron, newer ones have phosphor bronze. Since the 710HS keeps selling out at places that sell online, you're extremely likely to get bronze washers when the folks who sell online get their next shipments of the 710HS.

I found a place that still had them in stock. Wasn't on their site, but i called them and they found some in their computer. it's in the mail now:)

thanks for the info. how can i check when it comes in, or does it have to be taken apart?

I see what all the hoopla is about with the 710.
BGF just sent me a 710 to look at and it is indeed an awesome knife.

So you can't really tell from an external look if nylon or bronze?

With the blade closed, look at the pivot area. Between the scales, if you see a glint of bronze, then you'll know. If you don't, it's nylatron. The nylon/nylatron washers are still very good, but on a knife that will be flicked open 12 million times and have its tension readjusted many more, the added durability and lubrication of the phosphor-bronze washers is a nice touch.

It should easily be visible.

The one I have has a thinner axis stop and file or grooves for finger gripping.
