Looking to purchase a 720 p LCD TV in the 32" - 37" size. This is my first such purchase, and I don't really need the 1080 p. Will just be using it to watch DVDs. Don't particularly want plasma, but would consider it. Price should be under $700.

Brands I'm considering at the moment include: Samsung, Sony, and Sharp.

Samsung is at least $100 more than the other brands, but is also allegedly the most reliable.

The last TV I bought was slapped together with lead-free solder and crapped out after less than 200 hrs of use over the course of a year -- DO NOT want to purchase any product using lead-free solder.

Want something with a decent picture and good sound quality that will last for at least 3 years. Don't need anything great, but don't want to "save" a couple hundred bucks on some no-name brand that will piss me off.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a Sharp Aqous 1080i 32" that i use for both TV and computer moniter in my room, so it see a lot of use, and a lot of still images. I got it in april 07 for only $1000 after talking down the guy at PC Richards, but i bet it goes for less than $800 now.

picture is great, got me watching Discover and History channels a lot more cuz of the HD, very detailed and crisp. PS3 gaming is great, and looks much better than my friend's plasma Samsung. the computer input is VGA so its outdated now, since the new computers use a different connector, but its fine until i upgrade my comp again.

i say go with a 1080 because all cable boxes have 1080 options now, and if i switch to 720 i see a big difference in picture quality.

only complaint i have is definately no PIP. i didnt check before i bought it, but it was something i expected out of every single TV now a days. it is a feature that i definately NEED since its double duty for both computer and TV, but too late now.

good luck on your buy.

check often with buy.com or other discount sites for coupons at major electronics stores. Black Friday is definately the day to buy.

I have the Sharp Aquos 37 720p. Love the setup and picture quality.
