I'm relatively knew to traditionals, and after recently using a case that I purchased (thanks for the help btw traditionals browsers!) I've been looking into GEC.

I am quite fond of the 1-bladed version of the #73; however I want the kind that comes in 440c (acorn shield as I can see so far) not the 1095 carbon, at this time anyways.

I am having trouble finding where to purchase these, and anywhere I look seems to have varied assortments that are difficult to browse through.

Thanks in advance for the help.

As far as I know,GEC has not produced a single blade 73 Scout Trapper in Stainless Steel. The great majority of their knives are made in 1095 Carbon Steel. This is in part to keep with Traditional knife making, and in part to 1095's user friendliness. The single blade 73 Scout Trapper is far and away GEC's most popular pattern. They did make a run of #72 Lock Back Hunters in Stainless with Acorn Shield, but with most of the popular GEC patterns, after a couple months, they can be difficult to locate for purchase.

Great Eastern Cutlery under the Great Eastern Brand (Acorn Shield) would be your choice for 440c......as far as a single blade #73 they produce a Factory Test Run in 2008 .. 35pc run...using Elk for handles....other then that everything has been a two blade or the lock back version which are still available in very limited numbers ( 2's and 3's) thru there distributor network. If you haven't already done so go to Great Eastern's web page and select distributors which will bring up their base.

Thank you both for the info, I think I'll look further into the 72 lockback; as that was actually my second or third choice. Probably a red handle, those "ruby" ones just intrigue me.

I wish to go on record as stating that I wish GEC would produce more 440C bladed knives. They do an excellent job with that alloy.

440C is top stuff treated right :) I have some well-made Bokers, and interestingly a couple of fixed blades made in cast 440C - these latter are nothing short of amazing.

I agree with that, I've liked their stainless knives and could do with more!

I'm SURE I saw a limited run single blade 73 with the acorn shield and squirrel etch with red jigged bone. Would be an early knife, around 07 I think.

Ya... I'm having a bit of a time finding some of the ones I want in 440c. These things sell very quickly I'm learning to find haha. I don't have anything against 1095; but I only get that steel if I want a patina. ATM I'm just not planning to have a patina on it.

Willgoy.......

Yep ,you're right..there was three produced ( Horse Cut Ruby,Horse Cut Walnut and Burnt Stag )for a private party and sold on the auction site later on.......I didn't mentioned those since they were done with 420 and not 440c............

Thanks Jim, didn't realize they were the 420 offshoot....well at least my memory isn't as poor as I fear!

Regards, Will
