765 major disappointment

I ordered a 765 from knives ship free a few days ago, today it showed up. First impressions were it was just about the perfect size, the action was amazing, insanely sharp out of the box. Then the fatal flaw...the most and I mean most lock stick of any knife I have ever owned. So much that it became impossible to unlock it without turning the knife over and using my index finger to unlock it.
I tried a few more times and it happened every time. The only way you could make it easier to open was to slowly open the knife letting the lock barely click into place, even then it was very hard to unlock and it makes a rubbing/grinding sound.
I called knives ship free and they immediately sent me a return label. Great service and super fast shipping on their part. I guess my search continues for a new high end EDC knife.

I hear ya. However, I bought mine used and the previous owner had used a sharpie to lightly coat where the frame lock rests. When I saw it I was appalled and nearly sold it. I decided to start carrying it that way to see what it was like and only after about 500 flips did I have to reapply. Now this is pretty lame for such an expensive knife but I picked it up for under $200 and it has so much else going for it! I’ve been carrying it that way for a year now and I don’t even think about it. The sharpie is only noticeable if you look for it and otherwise an awesome EDC. Probably one of my favorite because I love the sound it makes when opening and closing, the size is just right and the steel is awesome. I also got a custom deep carry clip that took months to arrive but made all the difference (couldn’t stand the original clip). So yeah, after too much modification I think it’s just great. Now that sounds like a contradiction and I sure wish BM had just got it right.

The 765 had so much potential. Great steel, great size and then they over designed the lock with that silly milled stop and put that inflexible pocket clip on.

A tweaked 765 with pb washers, a simple, well designed and manufactured lock (hint : copy a Sebenza properly), a normal pocket clip and you have a fantastic knife. Benchmade can make frame locks properly, my Bradley Alias and LFTi are examples.

No complaints other than the lock bar, however it's simply not useable the way it is. When you disengage it, it makes a grinding sound. If I could find something around the same size or even the size of a large sebenza that was on bearings with m390 or similar that wasnt hideous I'd buy it. Would love an insingo style or tanto blade.

Yeah, sharpie does the trick and makes it so you can snap it open as hard as you want with no stick. Lasts longer than you’d think but if you’re really fidgety then you’ll obviously have to reapply sooner. I’ll post a pic. I could probably have used a silver sharpie if I wanted to hide it more but it’s really not as noticeable as it looks. This pic is after probably 50 flips and you can see that it does look like it needs touched up but it will stay this way for quite awhile before it actually starts sticking again. Again, shouldn’t be necessary but I’m willing to do it to keep it in my rotation since I like it that much.

Can’t go wrong with that one! That’s quite possibly my favorite EDC!! Here’s mine with 20cv.

Yeah, I called BM about that for my full size crooked, but no go. Makes sense though since it wouldn’t be fair to sell a custom if you could just get parts after the fact.

I ended up with something different

Can't go wrong there man! I picked up an Inkosi this year and I love how solid it feels. There's just something about the 765 snap that I really like and the nice "ting" sound when it clicks closed. Love that blade shape and the CF is beautiful on the CRK though and you know it's going to last forever... Nice call!!!
