7OT Question for those who have used it

Lately I have been reading about the 6ot and 7ot. I have not seen the 6ot in carbon steel on the auction site but I have the 7ot. I would think the 6 was made in carbon also; was it? I wonder too about the carbon 7ot insofar as using it to clean game. It would seem for a lock back folder ,unlike a fixed blade, that it would be almost impossible to oil the back spring/locking bar to prevent corrosion inside without using a spray lube like sheath and causing dirt build up by doing so. For those who used the 7ot to clean game, did you have problem with the innards rusting?

I've been using Schrade 1095 high carbon steel knives since the late 70's for cleaning game and fish. Other than the standard patina that develops on the blades from contact with blood and flesh of game/fish I've never had a problem with rusting. Obviously proper care was extended to all my user knives.

I guess the question should be asked does the tang stamp have a + after Schrade. I believe sometime in the mid 90's the blades were switched from 1095 to HC Stainless.

I am not sure if the 6OT was offered in non-stainless, as it was a late addition to the line; that said, even if not, there are bound to be a few oddballs that show up with non-stainless blades. That is the way with Schrade. Meanwhile, although I have used folding knives on game, and they clean up in hot soapy water followed by a good oiling, I would not recommend it. Good fixed blades are easy to come by and are superior in ease of cleanup and are superior on the job. If you carry a gun into the field that weighs several pounds and is at least three feet long, along with other equipment, what is the problem with carrying a good fixed blade (or two)? I stick my dirty fixed blade knife into a cardboard and duct tape sheath for the trip back to a clean area and only put it back into its nice leather sheath at that time. I carry my fixed blade knives in any one of a few pack combinations rather than on my belt. Uh... and, of course, a pocket knife to clean yer fingernails with.

was just wondering what the preferred knife for fingernail cleaning would be. me i use my LB7 which is pointed just right. how you all? besides the EDC what would you use? (now this is a new discussion)

delmas, you must have very large fingernails to use a LB7 to clean them.

For cleaning fingernails, I would definitely use a Frost Bowie from Pakistan. You wouldn't have to worry about accidentally cutting yourself.
