The wife and I went to the cabin this past weekend, to celebrate our 7th anniversary. We planned on doing a hike at the Silver Mines Recreation Area. Had a great time, and the weather reached the 60's.
We decided to walk down to the river, to do a little plinking:
The river is about 100 yards down the hill:
Me shooting my Bill Hays Hathcock Sniper SS. I swear I used to have a butt. Looks like I have noassatall disease now, haha. There was a lead sinker hanging by some fishing line from a tree. Never did hit it, but it was good practice. Note the pointed rock in the background, and one just under my hand, and the island the water goes around:
We had never walked past this area before, and decided to walk up river a bit. Went about another 100 yards. You can see the rocks I mentioned to the left:
Walking up to a rather larger rock outcropping. Just passed it, on the left, is a creek that empties into the river:
Um, a tree:
Closer to the rock:
On the rock:
Passed it:
The creek I was talking about. Really pretty:
Leaf with frost the wife took:
The lane was very icy. Not a problem to straddle it while driving though:
Batonning some wood for the wood stove:
You can see where I started this one. Once it reached that gnarly spot, it wasn't going anywhere:
So I turned it upside down, where the grain was straighter. Once it reached that same spot, it wasn't going anywhere. Not worth busting a blade over:
So, I used a wedge shaped piece of wood, to use for batonning:
That was some tough stuff. I beat on it like it stole something. Went as far as it did, but no more:
You can see where it started cracking:
Broke it off:
No way I was gonna attempt these pieces:
The BK4 did great. This is such a versatile blade, I almost consider it more of a tool than a knife:
Pretty sunset:
Sunday, we went to Silver Mines. Really pretty area. This was next to the parking lot:
Start of the trail, back to the dam:
First glimpse of the dam:
The trail above the dam:
The dam again:
This is as close as I got to it:
The wife took these next 2 shots. She went all the way down to the river. She weighs half as much as I do, and can maneuver a little better than I can:
