With the 7th Mid-America Bladesmithing Symposium only 2 weeks away, I thought I would start a thread to see who is going...

If you have never attended this event, I highly recommend it. The hammer in is at the fairgrounds and SOFA (Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil Blacksmith Association) maintains a wonderful blacksmith shop there (3 Actually) and allows the ABS to be their guests for this event. SOFA made this shop with events like this in mind. They have coal and gas forges and air and mechanical power hammers. Each shop has bleacher seating so everyone can see what is going on.

There is also an air conditioned hall that the knife show is held in as well as several demonstrations including the cutting competition.

I hope to see you there.

I'll bet you know I'm going, and I'll even bet you know how I'm getting there!
And who I'm riding with.
I missed last year due to scheduling difficulties, but it was the first year I missed since the first time I went.
The facilities alone, make this quite a memorable event. The forging areas are cool, nice equipment, air conditioning:eek: - yep AC!!
We certainly do owe the Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil Blacksmith Association a deal of gratitude for sponsoring the event.
Really nice folks to be side by side with.
A great time all the way around.
I certainly hope to see some new faces this year, as well as the old ones - you know who you are.

I hope that I can make it. I have some equipment to pick up from my cousin in Tipp City too.

I read the title, and thought, gee is this an event in KS/MO/NE/IA, when I'll be in the region?

Sorry to say, but MidAmerica might be geographically KS/MO/NE/IA; this event is in Ohio, which is 3 states east. Ohio has not been Mid-America since pre-Civil war days. I guess people in OH think California is in Asia :)

Actually, "Middle America is a region in the mid-latitudes of the Americas. In southern North America, it usually comprises Mexico, the nations of Central America, and the West Indies."

And the MID- USA "The region consists of 12 states in the north-central and north-eastern United States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin." :)

Regardless, only a few more days until one of the great events in Mid-America takes place and we hope any of you who can make it - will.
It's always a blast. Lots to learn and experience.
Great folks and a great time to be had by all.

I would love to attend but have a conflict. Please post some pics if possible. Looks like a great line-up of talent!

We will try to get some pics Gary. You would love the shops at Troy and they just built a new one that is much larger.

I recently spoke with Cindy from the ABS store. Pre-registration will end tomorrow, but you can also register for the event on-site Thursday from 2 - 6 and again Friday morning. Cindy said that there are more pre-registrations than she can remember ever having before.
