Never heard of it before. So, I had to look it up. Here's what one news source says about it:

"Grab or pull out your knives. Today we celebrate them, no matter their size, style or brand. It is unknown who started National Knife Day or when it started, but it was being celebrated by at least 2011. It also is unknown why the observance takes place Aug. 24, but one explanation appears to be that the date is connected to the Bowie knife. It was on this date in 1838 that Rezin Bowie, the brother of the knife's namesake, wrote a letter tothe Planters' Advocate claiming he was the person who had created the knife.

One of the earli
est tools known to humankind, the knife was present at the beginnings of the development of human civilization and came out of the need for survival."

I'm celebrating by waiting in anticipation for a pair of knives arriving today and news of a third that just shipped out from Finland. That and handling some knives today, because every day is knife day.

Too bad that I haven't yet received the Randall #2 Fighting Stiletto that I bought off the Exchange the other day or I'd have something in particular to celebrate today. :)
