I really like a compact bushwhacker like this- you give up some reach, but it'll do most of the job of a bigger knife without the extra bulk and weight.
As for aesthetics, I'm a sucker for raw, gnarly forged blades, and wood with character. This certainly fits the bill!
The only change I'd make is is performance oriented, and that would be to drop the heel of the handle 4 or 5 degrees.
