just spent an hour working on this thread when the browser crashed so have to begin again.

Anyway, the year has started well with a total of 8 pieces being added to the collection.

Spent some time photographing and editing the images and they are now presented for your perusal. There are a couple of threads related to knife photography going on also. A couple of the knives were photographed during the commercial breaks in one TV program one evening.

In no particular order or arrival, lets begin with Australian Knifemaker David Brodziaks Fighter with a 440C blade and handle of curly Jarrah and Ebony with curved 416 SS spacers.

Many BF collectors are Bowie Knife fans and while I collect most styles of knives, I too, have some Bowies like this one by Ron A. Frasier

Having seen Ron's work over the years at a variety of knife shows, I was able to obtain thru a forumite a small dagger

Oh, darn, only 10 images per thread is allowed so you will just have to use your imagination or do a search as I may have posted it in the past.

So, when the opportunity came to obtain a nice Frasier Bowie, I took it.

The Bowie has OAL of 15 3/4" with a 10 1/2" blade. The stag handle is mated with brown colored S guard and sculpted butt cap which match the throat and tip of the leather covered wooden sheath.

Lloyd Hale is one of the major knifemakers of the past 40 years and while for many of those years he created masterpieces for one collector on a full time basis, he is now making knives for others once more and this Chute Knife is a current example of his work.

Created for another collector less than a year ago, it is a great addition and features an ATS 34 blade 5" with OAL of 10". The butt, guard and collar material is NS. The reddish/brown Desert Ironwood is adorned on the tang with Pearl and Black Lip Pearl. A small brass spacer has Hale as the makers mark.

Over the past few years since my friend Ron Lockhart has been representing knifemaker Frank Niro (British Columbia) I have obtained some nice and unique pieces to add to a folder collection now counting 2 dozen plus.

This latest one

is somewhat unique due to the Mammoth tooth scales used on the colored titanium lined frame. The Robert Eggerling 5 bar composite heat colored dagger style blade is 3 1/2. OAL is 8" The bolsters have been colored to match the blade and handle.

the other two knives by Frank are

and

I have been fortunate over the past few years to beoome friends with Roger Pinnock and it is great to share a common interest in knives and here is one more of many that I have been able to purchase from him.

Likely he has done a thread about this fine Bowie/Fighter by Rodgrigo Sfreedo of Brazil. The name of Black Widow is appropriate for this piece which has a very tight pattern of 6 1/2" Damascus O1/15N20 steel with Damascus fittings and a carved Ebony handle with a multitude of pins . OAL the knife and shark skin sheath is 11 1/2".

One maker whose work I have always marvelled at is JW Smith and while I have a folder via Roger of JW's, I had not been able to find one by Aaron Frederick, his son-in-law. Well, not until recently. Aaron makes a fine knife and it is smooth as silk like all of JW's knives.

The makers own Damascus of 1084/nickle and 15n20, damascus bolsters and walrus ivory scales and 14K gold pins and stud make this a complete package OAL 7".

Another long time and fine knifemaker is Charles Weiss. this small hunter/utility knife has a 3" cast 440 C blade and OAL with reconstituted Red Coral scales on a finger grooved handle is 6 1/2" OAL

Lastly is this Dirk by Tai Goo. There is a makers thread related to this piece in Custom (BF). It is a 12" OAL with 1075 forged blade with multiple hamon lines with a handle of walnut covered in cotton shellaced cord with Sterling bead spacer and bronze with a steel butt cap.

Tai again is a maker I have long desired to have a knife from and when this one was available, I was please to make the purchase.

Who knows when the next knives may arrive but with a planned trip to the Blade show this year and the CKG show coming up in a couple weeks, hopefully it will be a fun year again.

Very nice indeed Murray

I especially like that Frazier bowie.

Hi Murray,

Stunning knives accentuated by your great photography. Yes, it makes a difference in enjoyment when you can share the real beauty.

Thanks for the post. Nice acquisitions. Frank Niro is on my radar. I have shot a couple from him and they are VERY worthy!

Murray, great pieces, and wonderful photo work.

I have to admit, you've really got me confused with the Tai Goo Dirk, it appears to have two different handles? One longer with a brass and steel butt cap, and the other short and stubby with a cord wrapped butt. I can't figure out what I'm looking at.

That is a real wowser!!!! Makes me want to dump what I have and start all over again.

Phil, only one image is the full knife. I just did images showing both sides of the blade and then tried a bit of a different technique for the blending of the image to the background.

Ahhhhhh, "I see!" said the blind man.

When I made my living as an advertising photographer I understood that my job was to make the viewer stop and look at that photo for 6 seconds, to get their attention. Well, you had my attention for more than 6 seconds with that one. Good job.

Fantastic collection.........love the Frazier and the Hale knives.....cant ever go wrong there.....thanks for taking the time to post.

Very nice, but where the heck have you been hiding that Goo? I see another visit is in order.

Roger

Murray,
WOW!! Great thread,thanks.
Striking images!
Amazing knives,yours usually are.
The Brodziak Fighter,Frazier Bowie,Hale Chute and the striking banding on Mr. Tai Goo's blade, superb one and all.
I saved the Sfreddo Black Widow for last, was Roger feeling well when he decided to part with it? :D
To me,with the sheath that is just a perfect package, especially like the ricasso treatment.

Congrats.

Doug :)

Roger, the Tai Goo was one I just picked up but had hoped to have gotten before you last visit. I had thought of saving it but figured you might not get by here until CKG and I thought that was down the road a couple weeks and also in the hustle and bustle we could not do it justice in viewing it. Call me and stop in anytime if you want to get a preview viewing.

Doug and others, thanks for the coments. It is always fun to share knife talk and knives. The wonderful thing Roger and I have is that we live only about 15 min apart and he can always see his "children" at any time. I'm also lucky to get to see all his knives when he comes over for a photo session. We have alot of fun with the knives. I agree about the Sfreedo. It is one of my favorites and occupies a nice spot on the coffee table in our family room right near my desk and computer. The Tai Goo is nearby also as is the Hale and right now the AF is on my desk.

Wow Murray those are all incredible knives!

That Chute Knife is really incredible.

Thanks for posting.

Sean

I had a chance to handle that Tai Goo yesterday at the CKG show. Although I no longer have much of an active interest in fixed blades, that piece of steel is one of the most impressive cutters I have ever seen.
