Hey guys im trying to get a real fine edge on my knives and i think that my 6000 grit water stone just isnt doing the job.
i was looking at amazon they had an 8000 grit diamond stone. my question is do you think that i should get it or maybe an 8000 grit water stone?
maybe a translucent arkansas? strope?

Excellent question. I will check back. In the mean time I suggest you should post this in the sub forum in Maintenance. Better chance for quicker response there.

The DMT 8000? It's excellent as long as you're coming off of a fine enough grit & not making too big of a jump. Lots of strokes & light pressure get great results. It leaves a foggy, near-mirror finish on the bevel.

Don't switch stone types unless you know what you are doing.

FYI, 8000 grit diamond is about 3000 grit in waterstones.

Are you stropping after your 6000 stone? My process I for general re-sharpening is 1000, 6000, strop with green compound, strop on newspaper.

I can't shave my face with it, but with my errors aside shaves hair and slices TP.
