I use an edge pro apex and can get my knives hair whittling/ tree topping sharp going up to the 6k tapes then stropping with bovine leather and green compound. I'd like to take it up to say 10k on a stone before stone before going to a strop. Any recommendations on a good bench stone under $100 that works well? I've looked at the expensive naniwa stones and have seen some in the $30 range and wondering if anyone has had luck with them?

I've never used any of these stones but I've heard good things about them. Imanishi 10,000, Kitayama 8000, The Original Naniwa Snow White 8K, Suehiro Rika 8K. I once had a 13,000 sigma power select II, that was a great stone but I didn't need it since I had high grit naturals. Nubatama is also a great brand I don't remember the cost and they can be hard to find.

High grit stones are nice as long as you have enough low grit stones to get there. Usually you need a progression of similar stones in order for the high grit stone to work... just buying a random high grit stone will not do you any good.

Thanks for the tips! I'm already building quite the collection of stones. On the never-ending quest for the perfect mirror finish and cutting edge
