An 805SS arrived today and as advertised, it does not have a serial number.

Nor does the Certificate of Authenticity have a serial number stamped on it.

This 2004 series is supposed to be 1,000 knives in mirror polished S30V with Chuck and CJ signatures. Which the signatures are there. Just not the serial number. Nor does the LE box have a serial number on it as do the others.

Sooo,,, I wonder how this one slipped by, or are there in fact more than the advertised 1,000 LE production.

Now, if it came to making one of these S30V's a user, as I have contemplated, but not yet done, would a serialized one, or a non seralized one be the one to use?

Delimma...... too much for an old man to think about.

I'd bet it is an over-run that went out through the company store, or was offered through one of the major Buck distributors. I've noticed that occuring with some of the blades with laser cut outs, as well as others. You may have to wait for Joe's Special Project list for this year.
Out of curiousity, what is the code from the box it came in? Just a thought....an others?

Now this is really interesting Scott,,, The code (bar-code) is the same as on my other ones,,,,however,,, This one is dated in Feb of 2004 on the black LE box. The others are dated in May and June of 2004. So, if anything, it is an early one.

Which leads to another question. Why aren't they all made at the same time? and maybe they were, and just boxed up when orders placed or shipped which would account for the variation in dates on the boxes

I guess this one just slipped by the xxx/1000 stamp guy who also must have been the one to rubber stamp the number on the COA

I also have an '04 805ss without a serial number. I asked about it, but never got a clear answer.

I even posted in that thread Rick, but too long ago for me to have remembered it. Yeah, one of the older n dirt guys here....

So now we have two of these things that didn't get serialized. Wonder how many more are floating around out there?

What is the date on your box, just out of curiousity?

Pack, Mine was May of 2004. But it has all the numbers. Maybe you could get an FB and use that one. I wish someone would use one just to let us know how it works.DM

Just dug out that box, it's 2-10-04.
I bought this one to be a user.... but I just can't do it.

Mine is dated 2/10/04 also. Looks like someone shipped some before they got to the guy that stamped the serial numbers. Would be interesting to know how many were shipped on that day.

So back to the other question, which one to make a user out of. Serial number or no serial number?

I would use them both :D (its kinda like handle pins or no handle pins on a 110) ;)

Depending on how many weren't serial #ed that one may be rarer? But usually in my experiences the overruns tend to be "less valuable"

I use my 802 and LOVE it! I am currently trying to hunt down an 805 and use it regardless of engraving! They are awesome knives for the money!
