First of all let me say that only being able to log onto bladeforums on the weekend sucks bigtime!
OK, on to the real reason for the post. My new BM 806D2 arrived the other day, only 8 days after NGK shipped it out of their door. Not bad going at all.
I haven't actually cut anything with it yet except a few bits of paper and cardboard so I can't comment on how good it might be in that department. I do have a couple of first impressions though. It's a classy looking knife with it's black blade and long thin shape, even my wife commented on it. The blade is not centred when closed, it's a fair way over to one side but doesn't tough anything and it's operation is in no way affected. I'm not particularly anal about such things so, as long as it works OK and causes no problems, I'm not all that concerned about it. The spine of the blade is flat with rather sharpish edges. I would have prefered a slightly rounder profile. I would like to take a little off the edges but that would take off the nice black finish so I'll leave it alone. It's not really a problem.
I found the Axis lock difficult to operate at first. It was extremely stiff to move, especially when closed and trying to move it with just one finger on one side. It was a little easier when the knife was open for some reason. I worked it back and forth for some time and, after a while, it became a bit better. I put a few drops of Tiff Glide around the lock mechanism and worked a few dozen times more and it became much better. Still a little stiff but I figure it will get better in time.
The blade opened very easily and smoothly, in fact it seemed a little too easily, like it was loose. However there is absolutely no blade play in any direction and it is a really easy knife to flick open and closed.
It was pretty sharp out of the box but not as sharp as the Spydercos came. I'm going to use it for a while before I take to it with the Edgepro or anything like that. This is my first D2 blade so I'll be interested to see how it goes.
I'm looking forward to playing with it.
