I knew better than to stop at the knife shop, but I did it anyway. Today we had thunderstorms, so being too wise to stand in the rain holding a metal pole cleaning pools, I made some trips to get tools and supplies. One leg of the trip was to our local Ace hardware for plumbing supplies. Unfortunately, across the street is the knife shop, and the truck turned itself right into the parking lot like it had a mind of it's own. Well, the deal of the day was a NIB 807UH J.R. , the Uncle Henry variant of the Old Timer 108OT Junior. Yup. I already had one. But a deal for real is hard to pass up. Plus, it came in the Canadian market box. Expecting to be asked $25 for it, I simply handed George a twenty without asking the price. He dug out his wallet and handed me back a pair of ones, final price including tax of nearly 10%...$18.00. So the knife was about $16.20. Such a deal!
The 807 J.R., as mentioned, is the UH series version of the tiny 108OT (1964-2004), with a 2 2/16" clip blade, a 1 1/2" pen blade, and a 1 5/16" sheepfoot. The tangstamp is SCHRADE+ over U.S.A.807UH. They were first shown in the 1985 catalog and listed for $18.95 (the 108OT was $15.95), and listed in 2004 for $36.45. (Another variant was introduced at the same time, the 706UH Gentleman Jim, with two blades, leaving off the sheepfoot blade.) This 2 3/4" serpentine stockman knife is like a tiny '897UH', my favorite EDC, so while it is very small, the look and feel is quite familiar. I like it! Maybe I should go back and buy the other one?
