Hello, this is my first post here on BF. I have 3 new Cold Steel knives on the way from a private seller/collection. One is a Cold Steel "War Head"- the little info I have from the seller is that it was a limited production run done in the 1980's. Big thing- 14" overall, ~8" double-edged blade, 2" wide, 3/16" thick, with- get this- lashing points built into the tang so it can be tied to a shaft for a spear. I assume it has a skeleton handle, but I don't know that for sure. It may have been touted as the "ultimate survival tool" back when it was sold.

Obviously, someone at CS back then was thinking "outside the box"! :D

Seller has no pix or digital camera, & I've found nothing about it on the internet.

If anyone can offer, or direct me to further information on this unusual item I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

not limited production, but was discontinued rather quickly (in my opinion), by the time I got around to wanting to get one, they were off of the primary market. It was indeed a very good survival knife, the first issue (or one of the first issues) of TK magazine had an article on it. with some creativity, the possibilities with this knife is endless.

Interesting- I'd never heard of 'em before. The one I have on the way was advertised as never used, carried or sharpened. Should arrive in a week or two.

Horizon Seeker, did you ever get one? If so, how was it in the real world? & if not, & you still want one, email me in a coupla weeks! ;)

yeah, I saw the ad too, missed it by a day. Never got one come to think of it. I'll keep it in mind. just for old time's sake.

Here's a picture that includes a Warhead. It's the one in the middle with the two crossguards below the blade. The BIG knife to the left of it is a CRK Sable with a 12.5" blade, 18" overall length.

Same topic...different knife. Back about 1983 I purchased a Cold Steel Recon Tanto at a large gun show. The knife is very much like the new CS Tanto's, but had a sandblasted finish on the stainless blade and the brass pommel and guard were matte finished. I have never seen another of these knives. Note that we are not talking about the current Recon Tanto with Carbon V blade.

Anyone else seen one of these??

Jeff

Yep, the original Recon Tanto was supposed to be a more affordable alternative to the regular Tanto. I have a catalog from Cutlery Shoppe that shows that particular knife. As I recall, they were not wildly popular, Cutlery Shoppe was offering it at a pretty good discount at the end of the run. They are probably not that common, though, so if you run across just the right Cold Steel collector at the right time, you may be able to move it (if you were wondering about their collectibility).
