Was wanting to know if the early outdoorsman knives were aus 8?
The ones with no bone breaker on top...apparently some of these have jimping all down the spine & some only have a short stretch of jimping.
I’ve had good luck with my srk aus8 steel & really like the outdoorsman design.
Any info appreciated....thanks

The 1st gen Outdoorsmans (early 80's), without the bonebreaker spine, used Cold Steel's "400 Series Stainless", which should be very similar, if not identical, to AUS8A.

The 2nd gen (late 80's), which added the bonebreaker, was also 400 Series Stainless. It is shown in the 1988 catalog, but is not in the 1993-94 catalog.

In the early 90s Cold Steel started using AUS8A.

After a long absence, the 3rd gen arrived in 2001, with a different style jimping, and more abrupt corners on the bonebreaker grind. These were AUS8A until 2005, and then switched to VG-1 San Mai III from 2006-2015 (the Outdoorsman Lite appeared in 2016). After another absence, the Taiwan San Mai version appeared in 2019.
