810 Contego Axis Lock Issues

Hey all,

It seems as though the lock on my 810 is super sticky. If I deploy the blade with any force at all (wrist flick), its near impossible to get the axis lock to disengage. I know its a big blade, but is this a break-in issue or a defective knife?

quite a few of my own BM Axis lock models do this, so I'd say not that unusual. A quick fix is to identify what part of the blade locks up to the "Axis" lock bar, close the knife, get a pencil and draw all over the contact point with the pencil. This effectively lubricates the contact point with Graphite Dust (without getting it all over the pivot area and in the handle). This may fix it, it may not. I've just flicked my Axis model BM's enough to get them loosened up enough where it's no longer an issue...

I've had one or two where the lock sticks when they're new. In my experience they break in after some use. Never thought of putting graphite on them; sounds like a good idea. I wonder if a Sharpie would work on an Axis lock like it does on a frame lock?

YEah...I actually ended up using a little frog lube on the blade tang (where it meets the axis) and in and along the axis lock slot--smooth as butter now. Must have just had a few dry/sticky edges. thank you!

It's actually where the Axis bar galls against the 410/420 liners that causes this stickiness. It does tend to decrease with break-in, but is also in most instances what really gives the Axis tight/secure lockup with little to no vertical blade play.
