It is not often that I find near mint Schrades in their original packaging form the 1960's way out here in Oregon, But such a thing happened today.
My local knife pusher, Bob, manager of a local cutlery store, called me & said he had a nice 825RB in the plastic tube. I told him I would take it. Today I picked it up.

Here are the pics of the knife & the paper inside.

Great find Orvet, nice to see an authentic sleeve and not the uderhanded Taylor copy. Is that gold cellophane they used for the tape?

NICE!!! wish i could find me one like that new in the package. i see alot of older OT's out there, but stock knives are becoming harder to get mint. great find!!

No, and is just old paper tape and has yellowed with age just as the plastic tube has yellowed. I am sure you noticed the yellowing of the insert as well and the oil stains on the insert from the joint of the knife.

I am glad you enjoyed it.

Nice find, Dale! It's also great to have a faithful "pusher" ;) !
I've managed to make a few friends (those who don't mind my big mouth  !) around The U.S.A. who write me when they come across a nice Harness Jack! I've gotten nice ones from at least 10 states.
But original packaging is special indeed! Can you date this one? I'm pretty ignorant of the time frames.

The best I can do so far is that it is before 1973 1/2, since it is Schrade Walden. The insert has a zip code so it must be after 1961. I think 1961 is when zip codes came into use. Does someone know for sure?

Thanks,
Dale

The Schrade Walden Razor Blade SS knives went on the market in 1965, so that gives you the lower limit on the year.

The part of the package does not say Schrade Walden, but Schrade Cutlery Corp. Look at the logo. That one was the first used after the company name change in 1973.5, per their revised mid-year catalog.

The logo on the box label says Schrade Walden Cutlery, and is what was used on the catalogs thru 1965.

They might have used logos after their catalog use, but doubtful before. Your knife is a transition knife shipped in 1973-74 is my own best guess. We often confuse "when was it made" with "when was it shipped". Obviously it was made before they changed the tangstamps, but shipped after the company name change. Or someone between then and now added to the package.

PS: Now if you are totally disheartened and you're crestfallen, just send me that nice knife and we'll both feel better! ;)

Disheartened and crestfallen??
I am ecstatic that 1) I have the knife & 2) I now know more about when it was made/shipped. It isn't often that a person has that much info on a knife.

Thanks for the info!

Grovel acknowledged & rated at 3.32 on a ten point scale.
Codger, this grovel lacks your usual subtly. :D :D

I know, I know...I was reaching...and it was a stretch...I was crestfallen and disheartened that I wasn't the one to find such a knife. It was a Gestalt transference...a projection of my own feelings of Inadequacy, the small soldier syndrome. Still...a nice find!!!
